ZRA targets Artisanal, Small-Scale Miners for voluntary tax compliance

0

A series of workshops and sensitization activities tailored for the Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM) sector across the country to promoting voluntary tax compliance has been set up by the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).

The workshops will serve as platforms for exchanging valuable knowledge, addressing concerns, and equipping artisanal and small-scale miners with the necessary information to ensure compliance with tax regulations.

This is according to the ZRA Commissioner General, Dingani Banda, at the ZRA/artisanal and small-scale miners’ workshop recently in Lusaka.

“In our ongoing efforts to assist ASM, we have meticulously planned a series of workshops and sensitization activities specifically tailored for ASM across the country.

“We are fully committed to empowering you, the ASM miners, with the tax knowledge needed to thrive in this industry,” he said in a speech read for him by acting commissioner, direct taxes Richard Kapasa.

At the same event, Musamu Resources Limited Executive Chairman, Sixtus Mulenga, observed the need to formalise and create a framework in which everyone involved in the small-scale mining sector to pay tax.

Mulenga said currently, Zambia was losing a lot of revenue because most people in the sector were not on the platform which they pay tax.

“For businesses to be meaningful to the development of the country it must pay tax,” he said.
