ZNS claims over 1,000 bags of subsidised mealie-meal seized in Lusaka’s Mtendere township

The Zambia National Service (ZNS) on Tuesday reportedly seized over 1,000 by 25 kilogramme Eagles breakfast mealie meal stashed in retail shops in Lusaka’s Mtendere Township.

The mealie meal was allegedly earmarked for sale to consumers at a cost higher than the prescribed K230 per 25kg bag of breakfast and K190 for a 25kg of roller meal.

The supposed seizures came about following a public tip-off which compelled a combined operation that started at 04;00 hours in the morning and lasted for nearly four hours, according to a report by the Times of Zambia.

During the operation, 25kg bags of Kalonga milling mealie meal which was milled by the Zambia Correctional Service (ZCS) were recovered.

Commenting on the development ZNS Commander, Lieutenant General Solochi, warned that the service would not allow dishonest traders to exploit the public.
