The Zambia Information and Communication Authority (ZICTA) is expected to complete the process of developing the national postcode system during the year which will enhance the identification process of geographical locations in the country.
Completion of the national postcode system would thereby promote efficient delivery of courier parcels, according to the 2023 annual market report for the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Sector released by ZICTA.
ZICTA Manager, Corporate Communications, Hanford Chaaba, said this was in addition to plans by the authority which had scheduled to deliver a new spectrum release plan.

“In addition, the Authority is expected to complete the process of developing the national postcode system during 2024.
“The postcode system will enhance the identification process of geographical locations in the country thereby promoting efficient delivery of courier parcels,” Chaaba said.
He also pointed out that a cost-of-service study for Wholesale Access and Infrastructure sharing in the ICT sector was equally planned to be implemented this year.
Chaaba explained that the study was broadly aimed at establishing more equitable wholesale access arrangements that were sustainably priced and capable of attracting investment to support efficient network expansion.
Meanwhile, Chaaba indicated that the number of mobile cellular subscriptions was expected to continue growing in the subsequent period.
This, he noted, was due to various investments in infrastructure and favourable product offerings developed in the ICT sector.
“In addition, the recently licenced operators in the international data market segment are likely to increase connectivity within the region as well as deliver capacity at lower rates leveraging on their regional footprint.
“Several legislations in the ICT and postal sector which include the ICT Act of 2009, the Postal Services Act of 2009 as well as the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act of 2021 are set for revision during the subsequent period,” Chaaba said.
