The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has announced a national availability rate of 68.4 percent for medicines and medical supplies as it launches the first distribution cycle of 2025.
ZAMMSA Senior Manager for Corporate Communications, Bradley Chingobe, highlighted that this availability rate ensured a stable and continuous supply to all 3,500 public health facilities nationwide, reaffirming ZAMMSA’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services to all Zambians.
“We are pleased to report exceptional availability rates for key commodities, with Antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) at 88 percent, Anti-malarial drugs at 100 percent, and Anti-TB drugs also at 100 percent,” Chingobe said in a statement issued Thursday.

He noted that the achievements reflected the effectiveness of supply chain management systems and collaborative efforts with stakeholders, adding that healthcare facilities nationwide were experiencing an average availability rate of 80 percent.
Chingobe stated that the current rate, nearing the World Health Organization’s 70 percent benchmark, marks significant progress toward a sustainable supply of essential medicines.
“ZAMMSA remains committed to strengthening supply chain systems to ensure that no Zambian is left without access to life-saving medicines,” he added.
