Zambia’s population density in 2022 soared to 26.1 persons per square kilometers from 17.4 in 2010 as capital Lusaka leads in population density.
Zambia Statistical Agency (Zamstat) interim statistician general Mulenga Musepa said in the 2022 census of population and housing report.
Musepa said there has been an increase in the number of persons per square kilometer at national level from 17.4 in 2010 to 26.1 persons per square kilometer in 2022.
The Population Density is referred to as the total number of people per square kilometer.

The population density information aids in quantifying demographic information and to assess relationships with ecosystems, human health,and infrastructure.
He said Lusaka Province was the most densely populated with the density of 140.1 persons per square kilometre.
The second most densely populated province was Copperbelt with a density of 88 persons per square kilometre.
Northwestern Province was the least densely populated with 10.1 persons per square kilometer.
The number of households as of September 8, 2022, was 4, 056, 605, Musepa said in a report.
He said there were more households in rural areas at 2,339,610 than in urban areas at 1,716,995 adding that at national level, the average household size was 4.8 persons per household.
Rural areas had a higher average household size of five persons compared to the urban areas with 4.6 persons per household.
Northwestern Province had the highest average household size of 5.3 persons
followed by Central Province and Eastern and Luapula provinces with five each.
The lowest average household size was recorded in Lusaka Province with 4.5 persons.
