Zambia’s junior hockey teams shine at Malaysia championship

Zambia’s junior hockey teams delivered outstanding performances at the AirAsia Dare to Dream Hockey5s Championship in Malaysia, showcasing the nation’s growing talent in the sport.

The girls’ team secured a bronze medal after a thrilling 5-4 victory against Hong Kong in the third-place playoff, while the boys’ team triumphed in the Plate Cup final with a commanding 10-0 win over Nepal.

The championship, organized by the International Hockey Federation and the Asian Hockey Federation, aimed to promote youth participation in hockey and provided Zambia’s young athletes with invaluable international exposure and competitive experience.

The girls’ team showed remarkable resilience throughout the tournament, particularly after a 6-2 semi-final defeat to Uzbekistan.

Their determined comeback against Hong Kong secured them a podium finish, highlighting their skill and tenacity.

The boys’ team demonstrated exceptional teamwork and dominance, culminating in their resounding victory against Nepal. The 10-0 win underscored their growing prowess and the promising future of Zambian hockey.

The 14 players and four officials representing Zambia will return home tomorrow, arriving at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport at 13:10.

The Zambia Hockey Association expressed gratitude to supporters who backed the teams throughout their journey.
