The Department of Immigration has issued a strong warning against harbouring illegal immigrants, emphasizing severe penalties, including up to five years of hard labour imprisonment.
In a statement released in Lusaka on Monday, Department of Immigration Spokesperson, Namati Nshinka, highlighted that aiding illegal immigrants is a serious offence under the Immigration and Deportation Act.
Nshinka warned that individuals found guilty could face a prison term of up to five years with hard labor, a fine of K200,000, or both.
“Harboring illegal immigrants undermines national security. We urge all Zambians to comply with the law and avoid this serious offence,” he stated.
The spokesperson also encouraged the public to report suspected cases of illegal immigration to the nearest immigration office or through designated reporting channels to help combat the issue.
“This warning comes in response to growing concerns over the presence of undocumented individuals across the country, with some Zambians reportedly assisting their stay,” Nshinka said.
The Department of Immigration reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding national security and upholding immigration laws, urging citizens to cooperate in maintaining order.
