The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has urged collaboration in advancing investor education, leveraging the opportunities presented by campaigns like World Investor Week.

This year’s World Investor Week is being commemorated under the theme, “Be a Smart Investor: Learn More About Digital Finance, Sustainable Finance, and Avoid Fraud and Scams.”

Speaking at the launch held at Levy Mall Cinema in Lusaka, SEC Chief Executive Officer, Phillip Chitalu, highlighted the significance of the theme in raising awareness about emerging areas in finance and investments.

Chitalu emphasized that World Investor Week, an annual event, focuses on educating and protecting investors, aligning closely with the National Strategy on Financial Education (NSFE) for Zambia.

He stressed the importance of equipping citizens with the financial knowledge necessary for sound decision-making.

“Zambians need to understand financial products, who is behind them, and the risks involved,” Chitalu said.

He added that digital finance and sustainable finance offer opportunities that not only attract environmentally friendly investments but also present risks of fraud in today’s financial landscape.

Chitalu also noted that SEC, as a co-implementer of the NSFE, has embraced World Investor Week as a key financial education event on its calendar.
