Zambian truck driver, 21 others die in Botswana road accident

A Zambian truck driver and 21 others have died in a road traffic accident in Tati town of Botswana.

Julia Malunga, the First Secretary Press at the Zambian High Commission in Botswana, confirmed the death of Ian Mwangala aged 41 in a statement issued on Saturday in Lusaka.

She said the accident happened on Friday between 09:00hours and 10:00hours.

Malunga said Ian Mwangala, aged 41 of Alistair Logistics, was transiting through Botswana from Zambia enroute to South Africa.

“The Sino Truck which was driven by Mwangala collided head on with a minibus and Tati Town Police sub inspector Thebogo Ngakayaja confirmed the accident to the Zambia High Commission in Botswana,” she said.

Malunga said Mwangala’s body has since been deposited at Nyangabwe Referral Hospital awaiting repatriation to Zambia.

Zambia’s Acting High Commissioner to Botswana Brighton Litula has conveyed his condolences to the Mwangala family and the government of Botswana for the loss of lives.
