The government of Zambia has reportedly commenced talks with Botswana regarding the construction of electricity interconnector.

This came after it had signed a memorandum of understanding with Mozambique for construction of electricity interconnector.

Ministry of Energy Permanent Secretary, Anold Simwaba, said this on Monday at the 2025 SADC infrastructure performance review and planning retreat at Kafue Gorge training centre.

Simwaba expressed optimism that partnerships in electricity infrastructure would unlock new opportunities into energy access and enhance cross border trade in electricity.

He said this in a speech read on his behalf by Ministry of Energy Assistant Director, Brian Mainza.

“This initiatives clearly show that government is keen in supporting regional energy security,” Simwaba said.

The permanent secretary added that government was making strides in expanding electricity infrastructure in order to make the country attain energy security.

He said in achieving this, government had heavily invested in hydro power and other sources of energy.

SADC Director of Infrastructure, on his part, Mapolao Mokoena, called for increased electricity infrastructure in order to attain energy security in the region.
