Zambian actress and producer, Cassie Kabwita, has been honored with the Best African International Female Actor Achievement Award at the 6th African Achievement Awards held in the United States.
The award recognizes her exceptional contributions to the film industry across several African countries, including Zambia, Tanzania, Ghana, Nigeria, Malawi, and Kenya.
Kabwita received her award in Seattle, Washington, where she celebrated the achievement.
In a post on her official Facebook page, Kabwita expressed that the recognition serves as an encouragement to Zambia’s local film industry.
She highlighted the potential for growth in the industry, noting that international market recognition indicates the right direction for Zambian cinema.
However, Kabwita also addressed the challenges of film distribution, pointing out that while local producers were creating high-quality content, they face difficulties in securing adequate funding and distribution channels.
She appealed to the government to ensure that 50 percent of local content is showcased on local television channels, stressing the need for proper distribution networks to support the industry.
Kabwita encouraged her fellow filmmakers across Zambia and Africa to keep sharing their stories, emphasizing that eventually, global recognition will follow.
In addition to Kabwita’s recognition, Zambian gospel musician, Abel Chungu, was also honored in the music category at the same awards event.
