Zambia secured their position at the top of Group G in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a 2-0 victory over Sierra Leone at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville, Liberia, on Tuesday night.
Sierra Leone started strong, with Augustus Kargbo and Issa Kallon threatening Zambia’s goal from distance.
The early pressure forced Zambia to play defensively in the first 10 minutes.

Despite Sierra Leone dominating possession, Zambia struggled to find their rhythm. However, Kennedy Musonda remained a key threat on counter-attacks.
As the first half progressed, neither team was able to create significant scoring opportunities, and the half ended 0-0 with both sides managing only three shots on goal. In the second half, Zambia came alive.
Emmanuel Banda opened the scoring in the 54th minute with a left-footed strike from outside the box following a well-executed team move.
Buoyed by the goal, Zambia continued to push forward, with Musonda remaining a constant danger.
Zambia doubled their lead in the 71st minute, when Musonda scored from inside the box after a shot from Joseph Sabobo struck the upright.
Sierra Leone’s attempts to break down Zambia’s defense after the 80th minute were swiftly thwarted as Zambia held on to claim a 2-0 victory.
