Zambia has been selected to host the 13th Ordinary Meeting of the Lake Tanganyika Authority (LTA) Conference of Ministers in October 2025.

This decision was made by the four LTA member states—Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Tanzania, and Zambia—during the 12th Ordinary Meeting held in Kinshasa, DRC.

In a communique issued after the meeting, the Conference of Ministers welcomed Zambia’s offer to host the event, recognising the country’s commitment to regional cooperation.

The communique also expressed appreciation for the outgoing chairperson, Zambia’s Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Mike Mposha, for his leadership during his tenure.

The meeting directed the LTA Secretariat to notify the Tanzanian government of the need to begin the process of identifying a suitable candidate for the position of Executive Director, as the current contract expires in March 2026.

The new candidate is expected to be presented at the 2025 meeting in Zambia.

The Conference also noted progress in the implementation of the annual fish ban on Lake Tanganyika, an initiative aimed at promoting sustainable fisheries management.

Mposha officially handed over the chairmanship of the LTA Conference of Ministers to Jean-Pierre Tshimanga, DRC’s Minister for Fisheries and Livestock.
