Zambia has inspired hope across Africa with its remarkable improvement in the aviation safety oversight ecosystem, according to a delegation from Malawi that recently visited the country.

The Zambia Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) scored 73.48 percent for Effective Implementation of safety measures during the recently concluded International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Universal Safety Oversight Programme Continuous Monitoring Approach (USOAP CMA) Audit.

According to a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday, the achievement reflected the country’s progress in enhancing safety practices within the aviation sector.

The Malawian delegation, led by Fredrick Chisepeya, Director of Aerodromes & Air Navigation Standards, expressed their admiration for Zambia’s accomplishment.

Upon congratulating the Zambia CAA, Chisepeya highlighted that the country’s success had inspired other African States.

“The positive score Zambia achieved is a huge encouragement to all African States as it is a demonstration of our ethos of ‘No Country Left Behind,’” Chisepeya stated.

He referred to ICAO’s initiative aimed at ensuring that all member states receive support to improve their aviation safety standards.

In response, CAA Director of Aerodrome Safety and Security, Nathan Kaluba, said that Zambia was honored to host the Malawian delegation and share its experiences and technical expertise in the aviation field.

“Zambia CAA has scored many strides over the years and is taking a leading role in assisting other States in the provision of safety and security oversight,” Kaluba said.

He said: “Through these collaborations between States, the realization of safe skies for the region may be achieved and ensure that ‘No State is Left Behind’. I am therefore optimistic that this visit will yield positive results as we share best practices between the two CAAs present today.”
