President Hakainde Hichilema has invited Egyptian companies to collaborate with the Zambian government in water harvesting projects through Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs).
He requested that this partnership should also extend to the construction of dams and canals, critical infrastructure for addressing Zambia’s challenges related to climate change, such as droughts and floods.
President Hichilema made these remarks when outgoing Egyptian Ambassador to Zambia, Moataz Anwar, paid a courtesy call on him at State House on Wednesday.
The President stressed the importance of learning from Egypt’s advanced water management systems, particularly their expertise in transporting water efficiently from sources to agricultural areas and communities.
“Zambia takes great pride in its long-standing relationship with Egypt, one of Africa’s leading nations, a partnership that dates back to our independence,” President Hichilema said.
He pointed out that Zambia’s PPP model, which has proven successful in road infrastructure development, aligns well with Egypt’s approach.

The President called for deeper cooperation between the two countries, noting the warm bilateral relations that have flourished in various sectors, including agriculture, health and technology.
“Furthermore, we appreciate the ongoing cooperation between our governments in health and medicine and look forward to deepening this collaboration in the future,” he said.
President Hichilema also expressed gratitude to Egypt, through Ambassador Anwar, for supporting Zambia during its tenure as Chairperson of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).
In response, Ambassador Anwar praised President Hichilema for the significant strides made since assuming office and pledged Egypt’s continued support to Zambia’s various economic sectors.
