Zambia has booked its place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a narrow 1-0 victory against Ivory Coast at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on the Copperbelt.

The Chipolopolo dominated the first half, applying consistent pressure on their opponents.

The breakthrough came courtesy of Joseph Banda, whose perfectly timed assist found Kennedy Musonda, who slotted home the decisive goal.

The second half was tense, with Zambia coming close to extending their lead.

Notable chances included a one-on-one miss by Cletus Chota Chama, popularly known as Triple C, and a wayward shot by Banda.

Ivory Coast also posed a late threat, nearly equalizing with a powerful strike that Zambia’s goalkeeper, Toaster Nsabata, expertly deflected for a corner.

A potential equaliser for the visitors was disallowed for offside, ensuring Zambia held on to their lead.

This victory marked Zambia’s return to AFCON after missing out on the last three tournaments.

Their last appearance was in 2015. The 2025 edition would be hosted in Morocco.
