The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has announced a net revenue collection of K100.6 billion for the 2023 fiscal year, according to Commissioner-General Dingani Banda.

This figure was achieved after a gross revenue of K117 billion and K16.3 billion in refunds.

Banda revealed that 98,572 registered taxpayers contributed to the revenue, which represented 18.4 percent of the active taxpayer base of 535,735 at the end of 2023.

This marked a 14 percent increase in contributing taxpayers from 86,489 in 2022 and a 10.1 percent rise in the active taxpayer base, indicating improved tax compliance.

At the 2024 Taxpayer Appreciation Day in Lusaka on Thursday, themed “Taxes Build Zambia,” Banda praised the significant rise in tax compliance as a reflection of the nation’s collective effort in domestic revenue mobilization.

He credited this growth to the commitment of businesses and citizens, as well as to the government’s progressive economic and tax policy reforms.

“These improvements are also the result of tax administration reforms implemented by ZRA to enhance service delivery, close revenue loopholes, and simplify compliance,” Banda said.

Acting Minister of Finance and Planning, Elijah Muchima, emphasized the role of inclusive tax policies in driving business growth and supporting sustainable national development.

He commended ZRA for leveraging technology to make taxpayer services more accessible.

“It is your commitment to duty that enables communities across the country to drive their own development, particularly through the enhanced Constituency Development Fund. As we celebrate and appreciate our patriotic taxpayers today, I hope their stories will inspire others to contribute to national development,” Muchima said.
