Zambia has received an additional consignment of 22 containers of essential medicines valued at US$3.5 million from Egypt under the Government-to-Government procurement agreement between the two countries.
This initiative was part of the US$24 million Government-to-Government procurement agreement, facilitated through Egypt’s Unified Procurement Authority (UPA), is aimed at securing affordable and sustainable access to essential medicines and medical supplies for the Zambian population.
Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) Senior Manager- Corporate Communications, Bradley Chingobe, made this announcement in a statement on Wednesday.
Chingobe explained that the latest delivery represents the fifth shipment under the ongoing contract and brings the total volume of medicines and medical supplies received to date to 68 percent of the total order.

He further explained that this milestone reflected significant progress in ensuring the steady supply of vital health commodities to the Zambian health sector.
“The consignment comprises a range of essential medicines, including antibiotics, antidepressants, fertility treatment products for both men and women, mental health products.
“These critical supplies are earmarked for distribution to all 3,500 health facilities across the country, thereby strengthening the capacity of Zambia’s healthcare system to deliver quality services to the people,” he said.
Chingobe reiterated the agency’s commitment to ensuring that Zambia’s health supply chain was secure, resilient, and responsive to the needs of the population.
“ZAMMSA wishes to express its deep gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Zambia for its unwavering support and guidance in the execution of this contract.
“The Agency equally appreciates the strong bilateral cooperation with the Arab Republic of Egypt, which continues to yield tangible benefits for the health and well-being of our citizens,” he stated.
