The Zambian government has reaffirmed the country’s position as a stable democracy and credible investment partner, citing its strong democratic foundations as a key factor that continues to inspire confidence among international stakeholders.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mulambo Haimbe, said Zambia has made deliberate efforts in recent years to strengthen the rule of law and uphold democratic governance.

He was speaking during a reception held in Lusaka on Friday in honour of the visiting Africa Working Party (COAFR) from the Council of the European Union (EU), according to a statement issued on Saturday by Ministry Principal Public Relations Officer, Eva Chanda.

Haimbe highlighted the importance of shared values in today’s interconnected world, noting that like-mindedness between Zambia and the EU was critical to building sustainable partnerships.

He also briefed the visiting delegation, led by COAFR Chairperson, Yamina Guerfi, on Zambia’s proposed constitutional amendments aimed at reinforcing democratic principles ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The minister underscored government’s commitment to eliminating political violence and ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process.

In advancing Zambia-EU cooperation, Haimbe expressed the country’s interest in strengthening collaboration through joint ventures in strategic sectors such as mining, energy, and agriculture.

He extended an invitation to the European private sector, emphasizing the importance of fostering a mutually beneficial relationship with partners from the EU and beyond.

The Africa Working Party comprises diplomats from all 27 EU member states—17 of which have representation in Zambia—and aims to deepen its understanding of the country while exploring new avenues for enhanced cooperation.
