Zambia reaffirms commitment to economic reforms in talks with IMF boss, Georgieva

Finance and National Planning Minister, Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, met with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva in Washington, D.C., reaffirming Zambia’s commitment to economic transformation, debt sustainability, and citizens’ welfare.

During the discussions on Wednesday, Musokotwane highlighted Zambia’s expectation of improved food security and better farmer incomes following the anticipated bumper harvest.

Following the meeting, Georgieva posted on X, acknowledging Zambia’s economic resilience despite recurrent shocks.

“Had a very productive meeting with Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane. The Zambian economy has showed resilience despite recurrent shocks. We discussed how advancing reforms can bring tangible benefits for the Zambian people. IMF continues to support Zambia,” she stated.

The talks form part of Zambia’s ongoing engagements with the IMF to sustain economic reforms and secure long-term financial stability.
