Zambia police accuse ex-diplomat, Mwamba, of manipulating law enforcement responses for U.S. asylum bid

The Zambia Police Service has accused former Ambassador to Ethiopia, Emmanuel Mwamba, of attempting to manipulate its responses to his social media posts as part of his bid to seek political asylum in the United States.

Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, stated that the Service operates within the framework of the law and has a constitutional mandate to arrest and prosecute any individual who commits an offence, regardless of political affiliation or social status.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday, Hamoonga emphasized that Zambia, as a sovereign state, enforced laws that apply equally to all individuals and warned that anyone violating these laws would face legal action.

“It is, therefore, misleading and deceptive for Mr. Mwamba to create an impression that law enforcement actions are politically motivated,” Hamoonga stated.

Hamoonga assured the public that the Police Service remains professional and impartial in executing its duties and would not be drawn into political theatrics aimed at undermining the rule of law.

He urged citizens to disregard false narratives that portray lawful police actions as persecution, stating that the Zambia Police Service will continue to uphold its mandate of maintaining law and order without fear or favour.
