Government has granted the Zambia National Service (ZNS) authority to grow cannabis and industrial hemp for specifically medical purposes.

The authority was granted by the Ministry of Health following several years after some Zambians had advocated for the cultivation and exportation of cannabis, a move believed would earn the country million of Unites States dollars.

This information was revealed by the ZNS Commander, Maliti Solochi, in Mufulira District on Tuesday at a press briefing.

“ZNS has already secured about 20, 000 hectares of land partly for the growing of cannabis and industrial hemp in Kapona rea of Kabompo District, North Western Province,” Solochi said.

He stated that preparations to start growing the cannabis and industrial hemp were scheduled to start this month.

“You are aware that the commencement order was given by the Ministry of Health that we should now start growing cannabis and industrial hemp,” according to Solochi.
