The Zambian government has signed an Inter-Utility Memorandum of Understanding with Mozambique for a project designed to significantly increase transmission capacity within the Southern Africa Power Pool.

The project is called Mozambique-Zambia Interconnector (MOZA).

The agreement was signed between ZESCO and Electricidade de Mozambique (EDM) of Mozambique.

According to ZESCO’s official Facebook page, this strategic electricity project was designed to significantly increase transmission capacity within the Southern Africa Power Pool.

The signing took place during the 2025 Zambia International Mining and Energy Conference (ZIMEC).

“The benefits include enhanced regional energy security through cross-border electricity trading to support economic growth in both countries,” ZESCO indicated.
