Zambia, Malawi and Tanzania will benefit from more than US$80 million in Feed the Future funds under the U.S. government’s global hunger initiative.
National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, and USAID Administrator, Samantha Power, announced the funding in Washington on Friday.
Power said the funds were a response to recent droughts and the economic impacts of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“Today’s new commitment of more than $80 million in USAID funding supports the Feed the Future Accelerator, an effort to deepen the U.S. government’s food security partnership and focus resources on three countries in Southern and Eastern Africa – Malawi, Tanzania, and Zambia,” Power stated.
The funds would complement a broader Feed the Future portfolio of $577 million, which include over $497 million in ongoing U.S. investments and $150 million in private sector contributions across the three countries.
Power highlighted that investments would harness the region’s agricultural potential to support a “regional breadbasket,” stimulating economic growth and strengthening resilience to shocks.
