The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) and the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) have agreed to collaborate in enhancing regulatory interventions to promote trade between the two countries.
The partnership was formalised on Wednesday during a meeting in Lusaka at the ZCSA Head Office, where a delegation from MBS met with ZCSA officials.
ZCSA Executive Director, Gerald Chizinga, highlighted the importance of collaboration in helping producers and traders comply with mandatory standards, thereby improving access to regional and international markets.
“Both ZCSA and MBS have a key role to play in supporting the economic agendas of their respective governments,” Chizinga said.
He added that such partnerships could boost market acceptability and facilitate smoother trade across borders.
Chizinga also emphasized ZCSA’s commitment to working with international organizations, including MBS, in enforcing standards that ensure product safety and quality.
MBS Director-General, Bernard Thole, echoed similar sentiments, stressing the importance of joint regulatory efforts to support trade.
“MBS looks forward to enhanced collaboration with ZCSA to advance trade and compliance in the region,”Thole said.
During the meeting, both agencies shared presentations on their mandates and functions, identifying potential areas for collaboration to strengthen trade and regulatory frameworks.
