A Malawian delegation has engaged the Zambian government on strategies for negotiating mining agreements and establishing special-purpose vehicles with foreign investors.
According to Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development Principal Public Relations Officer, Shamwinda Tembo, the discussions focused on fostering sustainable and mutually beneficial partnerships in the sector.
The Malawian delegation visited Zambia from February 13 to 16, 2025, to explore opportunities for enhanced collaboration. It comprised key stakeholders, including Kruger Phiri, Director of the Private Sector Council; Maggie Munthali, Director of Legal Affairs; and Mpatso Chikoti, Acting Director of Mines.
During their visit, they met technical experts from Zambia’s Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, led by Chief Mining Engineer Willie Chilufya.
Discussions covered mining project ownership structures, roles of foreign investors and exploration entities, and best practices for maximizing national benefits while ensuring sustainable development.
Tembo said the visit aimed to facilitate knowledge exchange and strengthen partnerships, focusing on Zambia’s successful frameworks for structuring mineral agreements, attracting strategic investments, and optimizing national benefits from mining activities.
The visit underscored Malawi’s commitment to building a robust and sustainable mining sector by leveraging Zambia’s experience in managing mineral resources and foreign investments.
