A Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) has been constituted between Zambia and Kenya to oversee the execution of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of tourism and wildlife.
Kaluwe Wasamunu, the Tourism Attaché’ at the Zambian High Commission in Kenya revealed this in a statement in Lusaka on Sunday.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on June 20, 2023 in Nairobi, Kenya.
This follows the bilateral meeting held by Minister of Tourism Rodney Sikumba, and Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage Peninah Malonza held on 26th and 27th June, 2023 in Nairobi, Kenya.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss and strengthen the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of tourism, wildlife, culture and heritage.
“The appointment of the JIC signifies the commitment of both countries to enhance their mutual relations in tourism and wildlife Tourism and Wildlife development,” the two Ministers said.
Recognizing the vital role of tourism in their respective economies, the Ministers pledged to collaborate in various sub-sectors of the tourism industry to achieve sustainable socio-economic growth.
This partnership and collaborations are expected to bring significant benefits to both countries, including increased tourist arrivals, promotion of regional and intra-Africa travel, economic growth, job creation, capacity building, skills transfer, research, innovation, and development in the fields of tourism, wildlife, culture, and heritage.

Both Ministers reiterated their commitment to strengthening the cooperation between their countries through their respective institutions responsible for implementing the MoU.
“By maximizing the benefits derived from the areas of cooperation, Zambia and Kenya aim to position themselves as global tourist destinations and contribute positively to the Gross Domestic Product,” they said.
To ensure effective implementation, the two countries have developed Terms of Reference as guidelines for the Joint Implementation Committee to assist in executing the activities outlined in the implementation plan of the MoU.
