Zambia falls to Colombia on penalties in UEFA friendship cup opener

Despite putting up a feisty performance, Zambia’s U18 Women’s National Team conceded to Colombia in a 5-4 penalty shootout defeat after a goalless draw in regulation time at the UEFA Women’s U18 Friendship Cup in Turkey.

As per tournament regulations, the match proceeded to penalties after the Young Copper Queens were unable to break the deadlock against the South Americans.

This was despite creating several scoring opportunities.

The team will now shift focus to their second Group A encounter against Turkey on April 3, as they continue their journey in the UEFA developmental tournament.

The UEFA Friendship Cup serves as an important platform for young talents to gain international exposure and experience against some of the world’s emerging football nations.
