Zambia’s Ambassador to Japan, Dr Tobias Mulimbika, has expressed optimism about growing interest in Zambia as a premier tourism destination after engaging Japanese nationals at the recently concluded Tourism Expo Japan (TEJ).

Mulimbika hailed Zambia’s participation in the Expo as a “resounding success,” marking a milestone in promoting the country’s unique tourism and investment opportunities to the Japanese market.

Speaking after the event on Thursday, he noted that Zambia’s active involvement in the Expo had already sparked positive engagements, which he expected would lead to an increase in Japanese tourist arrivals.

This is according to a statement issued on Wednesday by Faith Chilube, the First Secretary, Press and Public Relations at the Zambian Embassy in Tokyo, Japan.

“We have made significant strides in raising awareness about Zambia’s rich tourism potential,” Mulimbika said.

This year’s Expo, themed “Travel: An Encounter with New Value Awaits,” provided Zambia with a platform to showcase its world-renowned natural attractions and untapped investment opportunities across various sectors.

Mulimbika highlighted Zambia’s diverse tourism offerings, from the majestic Victoria Falls to the serene beauty of Lake Tanganyika and the abundant wildlife in Kafue and Nsumbu National Parks.

He also acknowledged the historical challenge of attracting Japanese tourists but observed a shift in recent interest, with more Japanese nationals now seeking information on Zambia’s attractions.

The Ambassador encouraged Japanese travelers to explore Zambia as part of a broader Southern African experience, expressing hope for a future SADC visa that would allow tourists to experience the region’s full beauty.

In addition to promoting tourism, Zambia used the Expo to highlight its favorable business climate and investment opportunities, particularly in infrastructure, energy, and social sectors.

Mulimbika underscored government’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for private sector investment, especially through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) in infrastructure and renewable energy initiatives.
