Zambia’s Department of Immigration has deported 76 Ethiopian nationals, aged between 15 and 29, for violating the country’s immigration laws.

Most of those deported had either paid court fines or served prison terms for illegal entry and unlawful stay in Lusaka, Muchinga, and Central provinces.

However, some juveniles were not prosecuted due to their age.

According to a statement issued on Monday by Immigration Department Chief Public Relations Officer, Namativ Nshinka, the group was removed aboard Ethiopian Airlines at 02:00 hours on February 1, 2025, from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA).

Nshinka stated that the deportations were part of ongoing efforts to tackle illegal immigration in the country.

In a separate operation, the Lusaka Regional Immigration Office deported 22 prohibited immigrants on January 31, 2025, comprising 20 Burundians, one Tanzanian, and one Ugandan.

“The two removal exercises brought the total number of deportations between January 30 and February 2, 2025, to 124,” Nshinka said.

During the same period, immigration officers apprehended 95 individuals of various nationalities for different immigration offences, secured 33 convictions, and denied entry to six foreign nationals who failed to meet entry requirements.

Nshinka urged all foreign nationals to comply with Zambia’s immigration laws, warning that violations would be met with legal action.
