Zambia’s momentum continued with a free kick from Pauline Zulu that sailed high, while South Africa’s Fridah Mukoma received the first yellow card of the game for a foul on Williams.

Throughout the first half, the Copper Princesses controlled the play, but neither team was able to break the deadlock, leading to a goalless halftime.

In the second half, South Africa appeared to take the lead when Nobahle Mdelwa found the net, but the goal was disallowed by VAR due to a handball by Banyana Banyana captain Thaela Smidt in the buildup.

The disallowed goal sparked a more intense contest, with both teams pushing for a breakthrough.

Despite several attempts from both sides, the match ended in a stalemate after extra time, forcing a penalty shootout to determine the champion.

In the shootout, Zambia held their nerve, converting their penalties with precision to secure a 4-2 victory, claiming the 2024 COSAFA Women’s Championship title.

This win marked a significant achievement for Zambia, demonstrating their resilience and skill throughout the tournament.
