President Hakainde Hichilema has described the ABSA Cup final as exciting and a step towards ensuring that the country is back in the Champions League.

The President congratulated Forest Rangers for emerging victors and pocketing the K700,000 prize and the trophy.

Runners-up MUZA pocketed K350,000 for finishing as runners-up in the Absa cup.

Speaking in an interview after gracing the prize presentation, the President said it was good to see Zambians enjoy the beautiful game.

“It was a good game of football. We enjoyed ourselves. Am sure the masses enjoyed themselves. Congratulations to the winners and also MUZA because in sports, there is no loser. It was an exciting moment and it clearly shows that we are back in the Champions League.

“MUZA has got the experience to come up very quickly in the ranks. I am sure they have learned some things in this game and will do better next time. Congratulations to all the players, the coaching staff, the same people behind the teams and FAZ, and everyone involved. To Absa, your sponsorship means a slot. Sport is very important, it keeps the brain functioning properly and the body,” the President said.

He added that he was also particularly happy with the peace and tranquility that prevailed in the stadium.

“Congratulations to the people of Zambia, the peace is prevailing, tranquility, no people harassing each other, no tear gas, this is what we want to see going forward. We must invest in sports. Not just ABSA, not just FAZ but all of us. Support should start at an early age, you should support children,” he said.

Meanwhile, the president said MUZA’s experience in the ABSA and league would help them in representing the country in the Confederation Cup.

“The Experience they have gained will go a long way and will do better. Never say I have failed. You fall, you will rise and tomorrow you conquer. That’s a clear story,” he said.
