Zambia Army Commander, Lieutenant General Dennis Sitali Alibuzwi, has voiced concerns over the rise in tribal divisions incited by certain individuals.

General Alibuzwi said it was important to reject tribalism and uphold the “One Zambia, One Nation” motto, which aims to foster unity among all Zambians.

He made these remarks during a courtesy visit to Zambia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Rose Sakala, according to a statement from Inutu Mwanza, the First Secretary for Press and Tourism at the Zambian mission.

“The Army will fulfill its duties if mandated by the Head of State, who is also the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces,” he said.

General Alibuzwi was in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, attending an AU Specialized Technical Committee on Defense, Safety and Security.

In response, Ambassador Sakala highlighted that tribal and ethnic conflicts had caused instability in several African nations.

“Zambians must reject any elements intended to disrupt the peace and unity our forefathers fought for at a great cost,” she said.
