The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has appointed former Chelsea and Ghana coach, Avram Grant as the new head coach of the national team.
Speculations have now been settled as Grant, the West Ham United F.C coach was unveiled at a colourful ceremony in Zambia’s capital Lusaka on Thursday.
Information from Football House indicates the 69-year-old has signed a two-year contract with an option for another year, with his major task of taking Zambia to 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
Grant has taken over from Aljosa Asanovic, who resigned from his position in September 2022 after being in charge for only nine months.
Asanovic, is among the long list of short lived coaches in the last six years and he was given a job as Zambian head coach around 2022 when he took over from Nkana Football Club coach Beston Chambeshi.

According to media reports, the former Portsmouth boss handled the Ghana national team in his previous job in Africa from December 2014 to February 2017, where he guided the Black Stars to the finals of the 2015 Africa Cup
of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.
He also led the Black Stars to the semi-finals of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, losing to eventual winners Cameroon.

And during his stint at English giants Chelsea, he guided the London club to the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2008, where they lost to Manchester United on penalty shootouts.
With this rich history, there is no doubt that, the Israeli will be equal to the task.
Zambia has missed out from the 2017, 2019, 2023 African cup of nations(AFCON), making the job of Grant cumbersome.
