Zambian musician, Elton Mulenga’s (Yo Maps) wife, Kidist Kifle, has written to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), pleading not to grant bail to a Lusaka businessman, Elias Musyani, because he was a risk to the family.
Kifle, through her lawyers, Nsapato & Co. Advocates has written to the DPP, Gilbert Phiri and also copied to the Officer -in-Charge at Lusaka Central and ZICTA, claiming that her family was leaving in fear following threats of rape and abduction by Musyani.
Last week, Kidist filed a lawsuit against Musyani in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court for cyber bullying and hate speech for allegedly referring to her as a prostitute, and threatening to rape her.
She alleged that Musyani also threatened to abduct their infant daughter in one of his Facebook postings.
The accused is facing four counts under the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act No. 2 of 2021 and is yet to appear before court.
In a latest development, her lawyers contend that Musyani should not be released on bail as there were chances he could cause harm to her and the family.
It was further claimed that the daughter had stopped going to school for fear she could be abducted.
“Particularly attention now drawn to the social media post by the accused in which he threatened rape, kidnapping and abduction.
“They realigned their schedule to avoid certain routes and hardly slept in peace. The horror revealed in the Pamela Chisumpa’s abduction case is still fresh and that possibility cannot be lightly ignored or ruled out. We simply cannot take chances,” further read the letter.
It was alleged that Musyani between March 1 and April 16, 2024, by using electronic communications, that is through his Facebook page in his name, intentionally intimidated, harassed or caused emotional distress to Kidist.
Kidist in an affidavit in support of the complaint lamented that the accused in one of his Facebook postings alleged that she was promiscuous and unfit to be a wife.
“That I am aware that the accused has on several dates between March 1 and April 15, 2024 posted several social media posts on his Facebook using his personal account under his name, Elias Musyani, to the effect I am a prostitute, an evil step-mum. He has gone as far as threatening rape on me and abduction of my infant daughter,” she alleged.
