Yo Maps’ highly anticipated performance at Hatfield Street, Gardens in Cape Town on Saturday was abruptly canceled after chaos broke out, with attendees growing restless after hours of waiting.

The frustration escalated when some began hurling bottles at the stage, leading to a scene of disorder.

Videos circulating on social media show some attendees fleeing the area for safety, while the sound of shattering bottles can be heard in the background.

The stage remained empty as the crowd dispersed in confusion.

In a statement issued from Lusaka on Saturday, the artiste, Elton Mulenga, popularly known as Yo Maps, explained that the delay was caused by miscommunication between the Cape Town municipality and the event organizers.

“We regret to inform our fans who came out in large numbers for the Cape Town show that we were unable to perform as scheduled due to miscommunication between the Cape Town municipality and the show organizers,” Yo Maps said.

He stated that he had arrived at the venue on time for the scheduled sound check and was prepared to perform at midnight, as outlined in the call sheet.

“The promoter and pick-up service arrived at my hotel at 23:30 and informed us of a sudden program change, urging us to head to the venue immediately,” he explained.

Despite this adjustment, Yo Maps and his team arrived at the venue before midnight.

However, upon arrival, they found no security personnel in place, and the situation quickly turned unsafe.

The Cape Town municipality had already issued an order to shut down the event.

“The lack of proper security arrangements by the promoter posed serious safety concerns for my team,” he said.

Yo Maps apologized to his fans for the disappointment and disruption, expressing hope for a future performance in Cape Town under better circumstances.

“We hope to return soon to give you the show you deserve,” he added.
