Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, Muhammad Ali-Alimi, has expressed readiness to provide Zambia with technical support in utilising groundwater for agriculture.

Despite Yemen’s ongoing conflict, Ali-Alimi noted that his country continues year-round agricultural activities and was eager to share expertise with Zambia.

Ali-Alimi made the offer when Zambia’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Duncan Mulima, presented his Letters of Credence to the Council Chairman at the Presidential Palace in Aden on Saturday.

“I commend President Hakainde Hichilema’s commitment to fostering relations with Yemen,” Ali-Alimi said.

He highlighted the significance of the relationship, with Zambia hosting a thriving Yemeni business community.

Acknowledging Yemen’s humanitarian crisis, Ali-Alimi assured Mulima of Yemen’s commitment to peace through dialogue.

Ambassador Mulima expressed Zambia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

“We are ready to enhance relations based on the friendship between Zambia and Yemen,” he said.

Mulima added that President Hichilema had called for continued high-level dialogue in international fora, which had aided Zambia’s debt restructuring with global lenders.
