Close to US$100 million has been approved by the World Food Programme (WFP) for Zambia’s strategic plan from 2023 to 2028.
The announcement of the US$98, 463, 341 came to light at the United Nations World Food Programme Annual Executive Board currently taking place in Rome, Italy on Thursday.
Reuben Mtolo Phiri, Zambia’s Agriculture Minister, said this showed commitment by WFP Board to support the country’s ambitions to improve the lives of the most vulnerable people and strengthening the economy.

“The Zambian government’s views agriculture as a critical sector for economic development, poverty reduction and attainment of food and nutrition security,” he said when addressing the WFP Executive Board in Rome.
The Executive Board is discussing among other issues, the global humanitarian overview, Resource, Financial and budgetary matters as well as the consideration of country strategic plans.
Phiri acknowledged with great appreciation the efforts WFP had made in enhancing agriculture, education, health, social protection, and rural development in Zambia.
He further stated that for many years, WFP had been an important investment partner supporting Zambia’s Development Agenda by contributing substantial resources to improve the livelihoods of the Zambian people.
