Vandalism of towers on the 66KV Mongu to Senanga transmission line has caused unplanned power supply disruption to Western Province, ZESCO, officials say.

ZESCO Limited has since instituted emergency corrective maintenance works on the 66KV Mongu-Senanga transmission line damaged by acts of vandalism.

This was contained in a statement issued in Lusaka on Thursday by the power utility’s Corporate Affairs Department.

“During the maintenance period, power supply to Western Province will be disrupted today Tuesday, December, 5, 2023 from 08:00 hours to 18:00 hours,” read part of the statement.

The firm stated that as a safety precaution, customers and the public should treat all power supply lines to be live at all times, as power supply could be restored before the stated time.

“ZESCO regrets the inconvenience caused by the unplanned power supply interruption,” it said.

The firm said power was however restored to Western Province, having successfully undertaken emergency corrective maintenance works on the 66kV Mongu – Senanga transmission line.
It stated that the transmission line, which was the main power transportation corridor to the Western Province, was vandalised on the night of December, 4, 2023.
