The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has confirmed that the international friendly between the Zambia Women’s National Team and Malawi’s Scorchers, which was halted due to bad weather, will resume on Sunday.
FAZ General-Secretary, Reuben Kamanga, stated that the match, stopped in the 21st minute due to heavy rain and lightning, was suspended following consultations between referees and the match commissioner.
“The game will resume tomorrow (Sunday) at 10:00 hours at the REIZ Arena (formerly Woodlands Stadium). Being a FIFA international match, we had to follow the standards demanded at this level. The heavy downpour made the conditions unplayable, with lightning forcing the match officials to suspend the match,” Kamanga explained.

He added that entry to the rescheduled match would be free, but fans holding tickets from the Saturday game would receive priority access to restricted areas such as the VIP and grandstand.
“Entry will be free, but those with tickets from Saturday will be given priority,” he said.
The match was stopped with Zambia leading 1-0 after Avell Chitundu’s early goal. The two teams will also face off again on Tuesday, February 25, at the same venue.
The Copper Queens are using the friendlies as part of their preparations for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, while Malawi is gearing up for the 2026 WAFCON qualifiers.
