Virgil van Dijk’s towering 89th-minute header secured a dramatic 2-1 win over West Ham, keeping Liverpool firmly on course for the Premier League title.

The captain’s decisive goal came moments after Andy Robertson inadvertently turned the ball into his own net in the 87th minute, cancelling out Luis Diaz’s first-half opener and threatening to cost the Reds two crucial points.

According to The Independent, Mohamed Salah, fresh from signing a new contract, had earlier delivered a sublime assist for Diaz’s goal, but Liverpool laboured through a scrappy second half before Van Dijk’s winner.

The result restores Liverpool’s 13-point lead at the top and leaves them needing just two more wins to clinch the title, following Arsenal’s draw with Brentford.
