United Party for National Development (UPND) consultant, Mark Simuuwe, has dismissed the opposition alliances as desperate and lacking a clear vision or viable alternatives to the ruling party’s policies.
Speaking at the Anderson Ng’ambela Mazoka House UPND Secretariat on Monday, Simuuwe described the recent joint press briefing by the Tonse Alliance and the United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) as a strategy borne out of political desperation rather than a serious attempt to address Zambia’s economic challenges.
He accused opposition leaders of attempting to discredit independent institutions simply because they did not align with their political agenda.
“The opposition does not seem to appreciate how independent institutions operate. They are attacking legitimate processes simply because they do not favor their political narrative,” Simuuwe said.

He argued that the opposition has failed to provide credible policy alternatives, instead resorting to political theatrics to remain relevant.
“They hold press conferences to appear relevant, yet they have no solid agenda for the country’s development,” Simuuwe stated, adding that even if all opposition parties had united in the 2021 general elections, they still would not have defeated the UPND.
He also took aim at opposition figures from the Patriotic Front (PF) and other parties, calling them “tired politicians” who failed to uplift Zambia’s economy when they were in government.
Simuuwe urged Zambians to focus on development rather than be distracted by what he described as “old politics of blame and empty rhetoric.”
