According to results released by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), Musonda secured 5,519 votes, defeating his closest rival, Tonse Alliance candidate, Danston Mwansa, of the New Congress Party, who garnered 3,896 votes.

Bwalya Peter of the Movement for Economic Change (M4CE) trailed with 68 votes.

Out of 11,373 votes cast, 204 were rejected.

The by-election was triggered by the conviction and subsequent five-year sentencing of former MP Nickson Chilangwa, who had held the seat since 2011.
