Ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) Lusaka Province Youth Chairman, Anderson Banda, claims that ‘mischievous’ millers and some opposition elements are behind mealie meal shortages in the country.
He said the UPND administration was determined to end mealie meal shortages the country is currently experiencing.
Banda said he was confident the current scarcity is being fuelled by the opposition to cause despondency in the country.
“The government is on top of things, we know that the mealie meal shortage is artificial, the government has been releasing maize to millers, but some of them are conniving with some disgruntled opposition groups to make the country ungovernable,” he said.

Banda said berating the government for importing mealie meal was mere politicking, and that at no time had the government exported mealie meal to neighbouring countries but only being issuing export permits.
He said very soon the economy would stabilise, adding that doomsayers would soon be ‘stranded’ as they would not have anything to say.
Banda said people should not be deceived by those in opposition who do not mean well.
“People are seeing the efforts the government is making to stabilise mealie meal supply and prices whose measures include stopping exports, while allowing imports of mealie meal in the country,” he said.
