United Party for National Development (UPND) stalwart, Lovemore Kanyama, has called for an end to the infighting in the party, especially in Siavonga District of Southeen Province.

Kanyama advised party members to also exercise responsibility in their use of social media platforms, warning that insults and provocation among members could pose a serious threat to the country’s peace.

Kanyama, who previously served as Siavonga District Commissioner under the Patriotic Front (PF) administration, expressed concern over the increasing trend of social media misuse within the UPND.

He cautioned that freedom of speech, while essential, should not be abused.

“I want to warn my fellow UPND members against the growing trend of social media insults and provocation within our ranks. This is not only dangerous for the party but also poses a risk to Zambia’s peace and stability,” Kanyama said.

He called on members to shift their focus from internal disputes and instead prioritize building the party’s strength ahead of the 2026 general elections by recruiting more members.

“The infighting that has taken center stage, especially in Siavonga District, must come to an immediate end,” Kanyama said. “Order and discipline are key to the growth and development of any organization. We need to promote love, peace, and unity within the UPND.”

Kanyama stressed that UPND was a national party, and no single individual or group can claim ownership. He urged members to embrace unity and foster an environment that attracts new supporters.

“Freedom of speech, as championed by President Hakainde Hichilema, must not be misused. Let us use social media platforms to promote progressive and developmental programs instead of engaging in insults and provocation,” he said.

Kanyama’s remarks has come amid reports of infighting and disunity within the UPND, particularly in Siavonga District.

His call for order and discipline is seen as a rallying cry for members to work together toward the party’s goals while safeguarding the democratic values they espouse.
