UNIP faction leader, Muyoba, seeks a more united Zambia post-2026 elections

Lieutenant Colonel Henry Muyoba (Rtd), leader of the United National Independence Party (UNIP) faction, has called for the establishment of a united Zambia after the 2026 general elections to sustain Zambia’s peace and unity.

Speaking during a card renewal exercise at the UNIP Secretariat in Lusaka on Thursday, Muyoba referenced Zambia’s founding leader, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, who appointed Cabinet Ministers from various political parties to promote collaboration and harmony.

“The challenges Zambia faces today are not exclusive to the ruling UPND but are part of a global crisis. This calls for all political parties to unite and work together to find solutions,” Muyoba said.

He invoked the “One Zambia, One Nation” slogan, emphasizing its historical role in fostering unity and addressing economic challenges during the early years of independence.

Muyoba also highlighted the cooperation between UNIP and the African National Congress (ANC) during Zambia’s liberation struggle as an example of the positive impact of unity and collaboration.

“Zambia’s history of achieving independence through unity and supporting neighboring nations to do the same is well documented. Let us draw lessons from that legacy to overcome present challenges,” he added.

The event, attended by senior party members, including the Lusaka Provincial Committee, also saw Muyoba urging party leaders to revive UNIP branches nationwide in preparation for the 2026 elections.

He cautioned against internal divisions, urging leaders to focus on strengthening the party and attracting new members to restore its prominence.

“We must avoid working in isolation or creating confusion within the party. Instead, we must concentrate on strategies to make UNIP vibrant and a strong contender for leadership once again,” Muyoba stated.
