The Zambia Women’s Under 17 national football team have qualified to the 8th edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The Copper Princesses held Morocco nil-nil in the second leg of the encounter to earn qualification to the global football showpiece.
A 3-1 first leg win proved to be sufficient to hand the Carol Kanyemba drilled side a healthy advantage at Lusaka’s National Heroes Stadium.
Namute Chileshe scored an impressive hat-trick against the North Africans a day after the senior men’s national team were beaten by Morocco 2 goals to one in the World Cup qualifier.
Zambia’s defence stood strong with Morocco failing to breach the back line, as the Copper Princesses managed to thwart every Moroccan offence.
The Copper Princesses could have nicked a victory, as they too had chances but their first leg victory proved to be key to them booking qualification to the World Cup.
The qualification has shades of dejavu as a decade ago, Zambia qualified for the Under 17 World Cup with then little known Barbra Banda and company.
The tournament will take place between October 16, and November, 3, 2024 in the Dominican Republic.
