United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) Chairperson, Sakwiba Sikota, has described the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) as a “deadly, devastating disease” that Zambians must rid themselves of in the 2026 general elections.

Speaking during the Citizens First (CF) party convention in Lusaka on Saturday, Sikota accused the UPND of restricting citizens’ freedoms and creating barriers for political parties, civil society, and the public in accessing better living conditions, jobs, and opportunities.

The United Liberal Party leader further alleged that the UPND intended to disqualify parties that have not held conventions from contesting the 2026 elections.

“Since all UKA parties would have held conventions, if the state continues to obstruct the registration of the United Kwacha Alliance, we will nominate one of our member parties under which all UKA candidates will stand,” Sikota said.

He claimed the UPND was replicating strategies previously used against the Patriotic Front, citing actions allegedly orchestrated through Mafinga Member of Parliament Robert Chabinga.

Sikota stated the importance of opposition unity to unseat the current regime.

“When the opposition unites, we become unstoppable. We must work together to address key policy issues outlined in our manifestos,” he said.

The UKA leader urged political alliance partners to strengthen their collaboration and prepare for a collective effort in the upcoming elections.
