Uganda threatens to seize DRC town of Bunia over alleged attack on ethnic Bahima people, VOA reports

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the chief of Ugandan defense forces,  has threatened to attack the eastern Democratic Republic  of Congo( DRC)  town of Bunia unless “all forces” surrender their arms within the next 24 hours.

According to the Voice America Kainerugaba made the threat on X on Saturday.

A spokesman for Uganda’s military had no comment on the general’s statement.

General Kainerugaba, is the  son of Ugandan long serving  President Yoweri Museveni.

He said he was acting on his father’s authority.

He claimed  that ethnic Bahima people were being attacked and that “Bunia will soon be in UPDF (Uganda People’s Defence Force) hands.

He was said to be  known for his provocative posts on X, including a threat to invade Kenya in 2022, his desire to hang imprisoned Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye and to behead Bobi Wine, another prominent opposition leader.

Despite efforts by key regional blocks  like the East Africa Community (EAC), Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) , the conflict in the mineral rich nation has continued escalating.
