The United Bank for Africa (UBA) PLC has reportedly donated US$500,000 to the African Union (AU) Peace Fund, reaffirming its commitment to promoting peace and stability across the continent.
The donation will support the AU’s efforts to advance security, conflict resolution, sustainable development, and a unified Africa as outlined in the AU’s Africa Agenda 2063.
Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, announced the donation in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Tuesday, underscoring the importance of corporate institutions shaping Africa’s future.
Elumelu stated that by investing in peace and security, the bank was helping create an environment where businesses, communities, and nations can thrive, which in turn drives sustainable development and economic prosperity.
“UBA is committed to advancing sustainable development, uplifting the quality of life across Africa, and strengthening the vital connection between economic growth and the stability provided by peace and security,” Elumelu claimed.
With a presence in over 20 African countries, the bank is a strong advocate for the continent’s potential, with Elumelu adding that “development will come with peace, and every individual, organisation, and business should be committed to achieving this.”
Elumelu also commended the African Union for its unwavering commitment to peace and security across Africa and expressed the bank’s honour in partnering with the AU on this important initiative.
He also called for deeper collaboration between the two institutions.
The AU Peace Fund plays a pivotal role in financing mediation and preventive diplomacy across Africa, strengthening institutional capacity, and ensuring rapid responses to emerging conflicts.
Commenting on the donation, Chairman of the Executive Management Committee AU Peace Fund, Moussa Faki Mahamat, noted that “peace is synonymous with resources.
“If we want development and stability, we must achieve peace.
“The bank demonstrated their commitment to the development of our continent through this sustainable resource. Together, we will continue to build a continent for the future.”
